Bengal vocational scheme for jobless

Our Bureau

Kolkata, July 4 The West Bengal Government will help 80,000 unemployed people earn their bread this year by providing professional training courses, Mr Mrinal Banerjee, the West Bengal Labour and Power Minister, said here on Friday.

Speaking at a seminar organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry, the Minister said, “This year, we have lined up a number of training programmes aimed at capacity building for the youth. This should ensure that the unemployed become a substantial capital base for our State rather than a burden.”

In the current year the number of vocational courses offered would go up to 250, he said, adding that 570 skill development providers have already been identified for the purpose. A number of such courses are in the process of receiving accreditation.
