Pre-engineered steel buildings maker Kirby is evaluating the possibility of setting up its third manufacturing base in India, while expanding its existing plants at Hyderabad and Haridwar.

The company has commissioned a feasibility study for the purpose. The third unit is aimed at churning out steel frames that will enable builders to raise up to 30-storeyed buildings. “We expect to complete this report within couple of months and thereafter take up the project after deciding on a suitable site in the western region,” Mr Paveen K. Tandon, Chairman, Kirby Building Systems India, said.

Speaking to reporters at the company plant site at Pashamylaram in Medak district, located about 45 km from Hyderabad, Mr Tandon said “the market for pre-engineered steel buildings in India is growing rapidly and we expect a larger conversion rate going forward. As the advantages of pre-engineered steel buildings spread to users, the demand will go up.”

“Therefore, we are looking at third plant and also are poised to ramp up existing facilities in India. Apart from catering to the growing domestic market, we are considering making India an export hub for countries in the region,” he said.

Part of the Kuwait-based Alghanim Industries, Kirby has four manufacturing plants — two in India, and one each in Kuwait and Dubai City. The Chief Executive Officer of Kirby India, Mr S.V. Rao, said that the Hyderabad manufacturing base is the single largest facility anywhere in the world, which has grown from 40,000 tonnes a year to 1,25,000 tonnes.

The entire Kirby team converged at Hyderabad to announce the roll out of SAP enterprise wide software.
