Coimbatore, July 6 Nachimuthu Polytechnic College in Pollachi and TVS Motor Co have come together to offer a three-year Diploma Programme in Mechanical Engineering (Sandwich Pattern) from this academic year.

The course is being sponsored by TVS Motor Co, its Senior Vice President (HR & TQC), Mr V. Kovaichelvan said. The sponsorship for a batch of 30 is estimated at Rs 50 lakh.

Sharing details, he said faculty drawn from the institution and TVS Motor would conduct the programme based on a customised curriculum to suit the needs of the sponsoring company.

Internship

Candidates registered would have to undertake a two-month internship every year and a six-month project on completion of the three-year course. On successful completion, they would be absorbed by TVS Motors. Candidates, however, would have to execute a bond. The terms are being worked out, he added.

On manpower requirement, Mr Kovaichelvan said the company hired about 300 candidates comprising engineers, chartered accountants, management graduates and diploma holders each year and provided them training. “This initiative with Nachimuthu Polytechnic would help us save time on getting the candidates on track,” he said.

Chairman of Nachimuthu Polytechnic, Mr M. Manickam, said it would be a win-win situation for both partners to the agreement as the students would be placed on completion of the course.
