New Delhi, July 7 TVS Motor Company on Monday said that it expects domestic sales to grow at 10-15 per cent, citing low base effect of last year and a wider product portfolio in the current fiscal. It plans to launch four products during the year — two scooters and two motorcycle models.

“We expect to grow at 10-15 per cent this year — one of the reasons is the lower volume base during last year. We are also confident because we have a 125 cc bike Flame, which was not there last year and we now have a complete portfolio in motorcycles this year,” Mr H.S. Goindi, Head (Marketing), TVS Motor Company, said at the launch of an Apache variant.

The new 160 cc bike, which is equipped with fuel injection technology has been priced at Rs 64,990. Mr Goindi stated, that “Hopefully there would be another bike in the premium segment and one more in the 100 cc segment as the volumes are high in the entry level segment.” TVS indicated that the bike it was expecting to launch in the premium segment could be in the 125 cc segment in addition to Flame.

Sharing the sales performance of Flame, launched in March with a single spark plug, Mr Goindi disclosed that the model sold around 28,000-29,000 in the first quarter of the launch. “The response has been good. We are doing slightly below our expectation of selling 12,000 units a month,” he added.

The company estimates growth in exports to increase by 35-40 per cent as it strengthens its presence in the existing markets and treads newer regions such as Latin America, Indonesia and Africa. At present, exports contribute to 11-12 per cent of the overall sales volume. The company, however said that in the next 3-4 years, export volumes would likely be at 25 per cent of the overall sales.
