Samsung to focus on printer biz

Bangalore, July 8 Digital technology products maker Samsung India Electronics has announced a separate sales and marketing division for the printer business unit, and said it is the next growth engine for the company.

The company said it has created a regional structure for the unit, with regional sales managers responsible for growth in their regions.

It also plans to expand its distribution network and double printer sales and marketing manpower this year, it added.

IT brand shops

Samsung India would open 10 IT brand shops before the end of this year and increase the number of sub-distributors to 175 from the present 120, said Mr Uday Bhat, General Manager, IT Division. The number of system integrators would be increased to 1,500, from the present 1,000, he added.

The company said it expects to grow its market share in the printer business to 26 per cent by the end of 2008, compared with 12.5 per cent at the end of 2007.

It said it plans to ship 260,000 printers in India this year. The total numbers of printers to be shipped in India is about 1 million, Samsung added.

The company said it is looking at a growth of 136 per cent for its printer business unit in 2008, as against the industry growth rate of 16 per cent.

New models

Samsung has also announced the launch of 7 new printer models, including an India-specific model, which has the Drum and the Toner separate, thereby saving about 50 per cent printing cost per page.

With the new launches, Samsung’s printer product portfolio has now 30 products across segments priced between Rs 5,299 and Rs 139,999, the company said in a statement.
