India Cements launches mobile testing lab

Our Bureau

Tiruchi, July 9 India Cements Ltd has launched a mobile concrete testing lab under the banner of Sankar Cement/Coromandal Cement Customer Services here.

The lab will guide the company’s customers to make quality concrete by creating awareness on the right proportion of cement. The testing will be done in two stages — first when the concrete is fresh, and the next after 28 days of curing. Such testing, according to Mr Rajesh Singh, Joint President (Marketing), will boost public confidence in the company’s products.

The facility will be extended to other parts of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh where the company’s seven units, with a capacity to produce nine million tonnes, are located. In two and a half years’ time, the company will double its capacity, Mr Rajesh told presspersons.

New units

The company will start new units in Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan. A plant of one million tonne capacity would be established in Chennai, he said.

Mr N. Suresh, Technical Consultant, demonstrated the method of testing concrete using slump cone and assessing the strength of already constructed buildings with rebound hammer for non-destructive testing.

Mr Rajesh flagged off the lab in the presence of Mr Nandakumar, Senior Vice-President (Manufacturing), Sankar Nagar (Tirunelveli) factory; Mr Thirumeni, Senior Vice-President (Manufacturing), Dalavoi (Tiruchi) factory; and Mr T.S. Krishnaswamy, Vice-President (Marketing).
