Loan waiver: 24,287 gain in Dakshina Kannada

The Agricultural Debt Waiver and Debt Relief Scheme announced by the Union Government has helped 24,287 farmers in Dakshina Kannada district.

Speaking at the District Consultative Committee meeting for banking development here on Wednesday, Mr K.U. Shanbhag, Deputy General Manager of Syndicate Bank, said that the total amount under debt waiver and debt relief is Rs 46.36 crore covering 24,287 farmers. Of them, 20,626 small and marginal farmers got the benefit of debt waiver amounting to Rs 40.61 crore, and 3,661 other farmers got the benefit of Rs 5.75 crore under the scheme.

The list containing the names of the eligible beneficiaries is displayed on the notice board of the bank branches. The banks have initiated the process of crediting the eligible amount of debt waiver to the loan account of the beneficiaries, he said.

grievance redressal

All banks have designated grievance redressal officers. Aggrieved farmers can make representation to the GRO and get reply within 30 days, he said.

Mr Udayakumar Holla, Lead District Manager, Syndicate Bank, said that 379 branches of 45 banks in Dakshina Kannada district have crossed the business level of Rs 17,173 crore as on March 2008. This includes Rs 10,495 crore of deposits and Rs 6,678 crore of advances.

There is an increase in deposit by 15.19 per cent and advances by 16.6 per cent on a year on year basis. The credit deposit ratio of the district stood at 63.6 per cent during March 2008, he added.
