PM approves 8-member panel to look into domestic airlines crisis

New Delhi, July 9 The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, has approved the setting up of an eight member committee headed by the Cabinet Secretary to examine various issues relating to the financial crises being faced by the domestic airline industry.

The Committee will include the Finance Secretary, Civil Aviation Secretary, Secretary, Department of Revenue, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Secretary, Planning Commission apart from the Chairman, HDFC, Dr Deepak Parekh and Dr Raghuram, Professor, IIM, Ahmedabad.

The Committee will examine and assess the financial difficulties being faced by domestic airline operators, consider various international scenarios and practices followed in other countries by different airlines and suggest both long and short term recommendations for the sustained growth of the domestic aviation sector.
