Mumbai, July 10 Having set a sales target of 1,000 units this year, Audi India is planning to locally assemble its Rs 65-lakh SUV Audi Q7. “We could perhaps consider locally assembling Q7 as it is doing well in the market,” said Mr Martin Birkner, Vice-President (Marketing), Audi India.

The company is currently assembling Audi A6 and Audi A4 in India at its Aurangabad facility. Audi A8, Q7 and sports car TT are imported as completely-built units.

Expand dealership

The company is expanding its dealership from the existing seven to 12. Besides Delhi, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and Bangalore, the German luxury carmaker will have dealers in Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kochi, Kolkata and Ludhiana by year-end. Buoyed by its success in China, where it sold more than one lakh cars, Audi is preparing ground for a similar stride in India. The company has started offering roadside assistance to its customers. “The luxury segment in India is growing fast. This year we expect the segment to grow by 200 per cent,” said Mr Birkner. “We are coming up with many more products,” he said.

Audi has launched its new A4 in India on Thursday. The new A4 is priced Rs 29 lakh for petrol and Rs 36 lakh for diesel. “As we target sales of 1,000 cars in India this year, the new Audi A4 will be a crucial product to help us achieve this. About 300 new A4 cars would be delivered by the end of this year,” said Mr Benoit Tiers, Audi India Managing Director.

The company plans to import the car initially, and by end of the year would build it locally on a completely knocked down unit. The new Audi A4 is being launched in India first with a choice of two engines: the 2.0 TDI multitronic with a power-output range of 105 kW (143 bhp) and the 3.2 FSI tiptronic quattro with 195 kW (265 bhp).
