Nagapattinam, July 11

All fishing boats including mechanised, fiberglass and catamarans hitherto not registered with the Fisheries Department should be registered before July 25, the Collector, Mr M. Jayaraman, said here on Friday. Presiding over the coastal security coordination committee meeting, the Collector said that action would be taken against fishermen who fail to register their boats within the stipulated time. He warned the fishermen not to cross the territorial waters. The fishermen , while venturing into the sea, should carry the identity cards issued to them by the Fisheries Department. He also instructed the Fisheries Department to expedite issuing identity cards to fishermen.— Our Bureau
