Coir States - Tamil Nadu Coir village to come up in Sivaganga Our Bureau Thanjavur, July 11 A coir village would be developed at a cost of Rs 7.5 crore in Singampuneri in Sivaganga district, according to the Chairman of Coir Board, Mr A.C. Jose. In the eleventh five year plan, a sum of Rs 243 crore has been allotted for coir development in the country, he told reporters here on Friday. The funds would be used for rejuvenation, modernisation and technological upgradation. Coir pith worth Rs 60 crore was exported last year. This year, the value of exports would go up to Rs 100 crore. Coir pith was much in demand for use as fertiliser. Coir geo-textile is used for preventing soil erosion alongside roads. Mr Jose inaugurated a six-month training for artisans, two-month training under Mahalir Coir Yojana scheme and two-month coir pith liquid fertiliser preparation training by the Coir Board at the Regional Extension centre of the Coir Board at Thanjavur. Coir Board is imparting training in production of coir products at similar centres at Rajahmundhry, Arisikare and Bhuvaneswar. More Stories on : Coir | Tamil Nadu
