Human Resources States - Tamil Nadu ‘Australia needs agency to hire skilled people’ Our Bureau Chennai, July 11 If Australia is keen on attracting skilled people from India, should it not have a certifying agency here to select potential candidates, asked a participant at meeting of the Indo–Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IACCI) with a delegation of officials from Australia. This sparked an enthusiastic response from others, including the officials of the IACC and other industry representatives, who agreed that such an agency was needed. Despite Australia’s keen interest in attracting skilled people from various areas to meet the skill shortage back home, it has done little to ease the process. Australia should emulate the example set by the US in conducting exams for people with skills it needed, they said. The Chief Guest, Mr S. Ramasundaram, Chairman and Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation, said a system of professional accreditation or a licensing authority should assess the candidates here. Mr Sarat Chandran, Director, IACCI, said skilled people from India had contributed to the development of various regions such as West Asia. Australia should put in place a well defined system to encourage more people to access the opportunities there. Tamil Nadu enjoyed a distinct advantage in accessing the markets in the South East and Oceania. More Stories on : Human Resources | Tamil Nadu
