Two CFSs begin operations

Two private CFSs (container freight stations) — Box Trans CFS and LCL Logix Park — have commenced operations near Pipavav port, according to port sources. The Box Trans CFS offers a total area of 23 acres, warehousing space of 9,000 sq metres and a yard capacity of 3,000 TEUs. The yard is equipped with 15 reefer plug points required by reefer containers. The CFS also offers trade facilitators an administrative building complete with 21,000 sq ft office space. T he LCL Logix Park Facility is spread over 25 acres of land, offering 6,500 sq metres of warehousing space and yard capacity of 5,000 TEUs. The yard is equipped with 25 reefer plug points and the CFS also has an administrative building with 15,000 sq ft of office space available to facilitators. It might be interesting to note that Chennai port has as many as 26 CFSs and Jawaharlal Nehru port 16, while Kolkata Dock system only two within the dock areas. However, there are proposals before the dock authorities to allow private firms to set up more CFSs, at least three more, within the dock. Whether setting up of more CFSs takes care of myriad problems associated with container handling is of course another matter.
