Toil for paddy

A farm worker engaged in a paddy field near Thrissur. The Kerala Government has drawn up a comprehensive package aimed at doubling paddy production in the State which includes free crop insurance, interest free loans, production incentives and free power with an initial outlay of Rs 100 crore. The objective is to increase the area of paddy farming from the present 2.5 lakh hectares to 3 lakh hectares and the productivity from 2.5 tonnes per hectare to 5 tonnes.
