Chennai, July 15 Chennai-based jewellery major Prince Jewellery is planning to expand its retail horizon by stepping into other cities such as Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Bangalore and Tiruchi. With three large format stores in Chennai, it has so far confined its presence to the city.

“Now, as we see an increasing demand in those cities for trendy jewelleries, we have decided to open our showrooms there as well,” said Mr Princeson Jose, Managing Director of the company.

Asked whether the company will set its foot in the Northern market too, he said since South is the biggest market for gold, “we have decided to consolidate our presence in the South first”.

Prince Jewellery focuses on fashion and designer wear. Irrespective of the volatility in the gold price, there is a steady demand for the designer and high-end stone-studded jewellery. “Sensing this, we have decided to focus more on designer wear,” he said.

According to him, the company which introduced light-weight gold fashion jewellery, has introduced ‘everyday-wear’ range in platinum too.

The company also exports jewellery to countries including the US, UK, UAE and Singapore.

However, exports contribute only 5 per cent to turnover.

Prince Jewellery has two modern manufacturing facilities in Chennai and Kerala. With a team of designers in place, it introduces new designs almost every day.

“We also engage students of NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology) to design jewellery with the help of our artisans,” says Mr Jose.

Besides introducing new designs, it also exhibits a range of antique jewellery during July every year.

The 15-day exhibition will bring together a collection of original and recreated antiques, he said.
