Horticulture/Fruits & Vegetables States - West Bengal Drive to promote potato consumption Our Bureau Kolkata, July 15 The West Bengal Cold Storage Association (WBCSA) is to launch a campaign to popularise consumption of potatoes. Giving this information to newspersons here on Monday, Mr Patit Paban De, President of the association, said it would sign a memorandum of understanding with the State Marketing Board this week to launch an awareness programme highlighting the benefits of eating potatoes. West Bengal has produced a record 88 lakh tonnes of potatoes this year, raising concerns of wastage due to glut. “The campaign through billboards and other media will have a slogan on the line of the one launched by National Egg Coordination Committee for popularising egg consumption,” Mr De said. A number of 8X8 ft billboards had already been put up in five-six locations in the city and all major district headquarters highlighting a research by the Indian Medical Association on nutritional value of potatoes, he said.
