Mangalore, July 16

The Association of New Mangalore Port Stevedores has welcomed the decision of All-India Port and Dock Workers' Federation to call of strike which was scheduled to begin on July 16. In a letter to the Union Shipping Minister, the President of the association, Mr Shekar Pujari, said that the strike was averted because of the efforts of the Minister, the team of officials at the Shipping Ministry, and the leaders of the major ports labour unions. They have all collectively contributed in resolving this crucial issue, he said.

It may be mentioned here that the association had recently expressed concern over the scheduled strike called by the federation. It had urged the Union Shipping Ministry to prevail upon the federation to withdraw the strike call.
