Firm trend at Kochi tea auction

Exporters evinced keen interest in clean black dust tea varieties at the Kochi Tea Auction. Orthodox dust tea also generated good enquiry from exporters. Major blenders, interstate operators and local participants were active in the dust sale. Both CTC and orthodox leaf also found good demand from exporters.

There was 9.14 lakh kg of dust tea on offer at the auction. CTC dust was steady. Medium and plain varieties moved up by Rs 2-3. Best CTC varieties fetched Rs 68-78, medium CTC was at Rs 63-67 and below medium quoted Rs 60-63. High grown BOPD fetched Rs 100-114, medium BOPD ranged at Rs 56-60 and secondaries quoted Rs 51-55.

Leaf Sale

There was 4,25,000 kg of leaf tea on offer which generated good general demand. High grown whole leaf grades and high grown broken was firm to dearer. Fannings and medium orthodox broken remained steady. Orthodox medium whole leaf grades were dearer. Among CTC leaf smaller broken and fannings were steady to dearer. Plainer bold broken varieties were also dearer. Best Nilgiri varieties fetched Rs 85-110, medium orthodox was at Rs 66-92 and plain orthodox quoted Rs 56-63. Best CTC leaf was at Rs 60-68 and medium CTC fetched Rs 55-60.

Top Prices

In the dust category, Kodanad BOPD fetched the top price at Rs 114 followed by Parkside BOPD at Rs 100, Pasuparai FD at Rs 98 and Pasuparai SFD at Rs 94. At the leaf auction, Kairbetta TGFOP fetched the top price at Rs 135.
