IGBC launches Ahmedabad chapter

Our Bureau

Ahmedabad, July 18

The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) has launched its Ahmedabad chapter to enable faster and deeper reach of green building concepts to wider sections of stakeholders and to provide a platform for networking at the regional level.

This is the seventh chapter launched by IGBC after Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Hyderabad.

Mr Sameer Sinha, Director, Savvy Infrastructures Ltd, who took over as Chairman of the Ahmedabad chapter, said it would make efforts to catalyse construction of at least 25 green buildings in the city by 2009, according to a release here.

Dr Prem C. Jain, Chairman, IGBC, said as against 20,000 square feet in 2002, about 147 million sq feet of LEED-rated green buildings are now being constructed in India.

Green footprint

More than 250 such buildings are coming up in the country, he said, adding the Council aimed at having one-billion sq ft of green footprint by 2012.

Mr S. Srinivas, Principal Counsellor, IGBC, said 65 projects with a footprint of 88 million sq ft have registered for the recently launched IGBC-Green Housing Rating System.
