Shree Cement net falls 5%

Kolkata, July 19

Shree Cement Ltd has registered a five per cent drop in net profit to Rs 111 crore during the first quarter of this fiscal. It recorded a net profit of Rs 117 crore during the corresponding period of 2007-08.

According to a company release, profits have fallen despite a 39 per cent increase in turnover from Rs 514 crore during April-June 2008. It said that a sharp 82 per cent increase in power and fuel bill to Rs 151 crore (Rs 82 crore) has impacted margins during the quarter.

Freight on inter-unit clinker transfer (Rs 16 crore) and freight and selling expenses (Rs 102 crore) have also witnessed sharp increases. The company has already announced 80 per cent (60 per cent) dividend for its shareholders for last fiscal. - Our Bureau
