Farnell India eyeing tier II expansion

L.N. Revathy

Coimbatore, July 20 Farnell Electronics India Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of UK-headquartered Farnell, is eyeing the Electronics Design Engineering (EDE) and Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) market in India.

The company, a global distributor of electronics, electrical, industrial and MRO products has, over the last six months, established its branch network across nine cities. It now plans to penetrate into tier II locations, and has signalled its network expansion plans by setting up an office here.

According to its Managing Director, Mr Ravi Pagar, Farnell India would have 18 branches by December this year. It would be a one-stop shop offering multi-channel choice of over 4.3 lakh stocked products from over 1,200 suppliers globally.

The Indian arm sourced its requirements from the warehouses located across seven different global locations. “We plan to have a full-fledged warehouse in India soon, ideally at Bangalore or Mumbai,” he told Business Line.

Service upgrade

Farnell is also aiming to introduce improved methods of service using its multi-channel approach in India, such as field sales through its branch offices, contact centre, technical support and transactional ecommerce.

The company has already established a captive call centre in Bangalore.

According to Mr Pagar, Farnell’s Web site with its product range and catalogue has been up and operational since May. “Around 4,000-5,000 hits are registered every day. Even if 30 per cent of these enquiries turn into orders, the growth prospects would be phenomenal.”
