‘Agri machinery unit to come up at Italian Consulate in Kolkata’

Kolkata, July 20 The tanning, training and service centre being set up here jointly in cooperation with Italy would start offering training from September, according to Mr Bruno Camparia, Consul General of Italy.

Addressing members of the Calcutta Chamber of Commerce here recently, Mr Camparia also announced the setting up of an operational unit for agricultural machinery at the Italian Consulate in Kolkata to monitor the market and collect information on opportunities to facilitate in trade collaboration between the two counties.

Pointing out the scope for collaboration with West Bengal in the area of food processing, he said Italy was keen to set up a food testing laboratory in Kolkata.

“We have a long-standing experience in agro-management and have already implemented the strict EU regulations on quality control of food products,” he said. The number of visas issued by the local Consulate General of Italy for business and tourism purposes was steadily rising, he said, pointing out that till June 30 this year there had been a 36 per cent rise in the number of visas issued.

Indian investment in Italy since 2002 is estimated at around €2 billion mainly in sectors such as automotive, pharmaceutical, textile, consumer goods and infrastructure, he added.
