Kolkata, July 20 Columbia Asia Hospitals Pvt Ltd, India, the Indian arm of the Malaysia-based Columbia Asia Hospitals Pvt Ltd, has launched a new 100-bed multi-speciality hospital in Salt Lake area of the city. This is the company’s fourth such hospital in the country. Of the three others already functioning, two are located in Bangalore and the third one at Palam Vihar, Gurgaon.

“We’ll offer all kinds of medical facilities, except invasive cardiology and radio-therapy, in the Salt Lake hospital,” Dr Nandkumar Jairam, Chairman and Group Medical Director of Columbia Asia Hospitals Pvt Ltd, India, told Business Line, here on Friday. “Backed by modern technology, we’ll offer top-class healthcare services at affordable price”.

The bed rent, according to Mr Arindam Banerjee, General Manager of Columbia Asia, Salt Lake, will vary between Rs 1,900-5,000 per day, depending on the kind of amenities the customers would opt for.

The total cost of Salt Lake hospital, Mr Jairam estimated, would be about $5 million excluding the land cost. “This was more or less the cost of each of our other hospitals also, only the land cost varied from place to place,” he said pointing out that the company’s fifth hospital, now under construction, would be launched at Patiala early next year.

Unlike Columbia Asia’s other hospitals in India, which are entirely owned by Malaysia-based company controlled by a group of US-based investors, the Salt Lake hospital is a joint venture between the Malaysia-based company and Mr Kamal Gandhi, a local businessman. Mr Gandhi, it is learnt, holds 26 per cent stake in the Salt Lake outfit.
