VLCC to hive off beauty education as separate entity

Bindu D. Menon

New Delhi, July 21

With the beauty and wellness pie expanding, VLCC Institute of Beauty, Health and Management is looking to hive off the division as a separate entity to fuel growth.

Besides meeting the skill-shortage gap in the industry and nurturing the spirit of entrepreneurship, the company will also be setting up 60 institutes by 2009 with an investment of Rs 100 crore.

“We are studying the possibility of hiving off the education vertical as a separate entity.

With 40 campuses across India, the institute offers courses varying in duration from one week to eight months. In this sunrise industry, we are also evaluating strategic alliances to drive growth and market expansion,” Mr Ashish K. Pandit, Divisional Chief Operating Officer Education Business, told Business Line.

The market size of the beauty service industry is estimated at Rs 2,800 crore and is expected to grow 13.5 per cent till 2010.

Mr Pandit said that the VLCC Institute has tied up with three international partners to provide latest education. The associations include – City and Guild of UK for beauty therapy and hair dressing for skill evaluation, Schwarzkopf for training in hair colouring and Cengage Learning, US for publishing and co-branding of beauty, nutrition and fitness books.

This year, the institute is also making its international foray. “Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Dubai are some of the countries we will be expanding into during this fiscal,” he added.
