Lanco arm to groom youth in construction skills

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, July 21 Lanco Institute of General Humanitarian Trust (LIGHT), the corporate social responsibility arm of the Lanco Group, has launched a training programme in construction trades for rural unemployed youth at Chengicherla village of Ghatkesar mandal in Ranga Reddy district.

The programme aims to train 5,000 unemployed youth in one year to meet the growing demand for trained human resources in the construction sector. It has been taken up in partnership with National Academy of Construction (NAC) and Rajiv Gandhi Udyogsri/Employment Guarantee and Marketing Mission.

The Trustee of LIGHT, Mr L. Sreedhar, in a statement said the society needs a carpenter as much as a Collector, a mason as much as a magistrate and a bar-bender as much as the branch manager of a bank.

Manpower need

Earlier, Mr Manohar, Director of Lanco Infratech Ltd, said there is a requirement of nearly 20,000 trained persons in its initiatives and after the 3-month training programme, trainees would be absorbed in the company operations.

A recent survey has revealed that currently there are 20 lakh opportunities in the infrastructure sector.
