Infrastructure States - Kerala Acquisition begins for Technocity Our Bureau Thiruvananthapuram, July 22 The Kerala Government has started acquisition of land for the proposed Technocity near Thiruvananthapuram. The Chief Minister, Mr V.S. Achuthanandan, said in reply to questions in the State Assembly on Tuesday that 204 acres of land, out of a requirement of 500 acres, had so far been acquired. The Government has reached an understanding with landowners on the acquisitions and accordingly Rs 140 crore would be paid to them, he said. The Chief Minister said that the validity of 347 rank lists of the Public Service Commission would expire within the next six months and the commission would hold ‘adalats’ in all districts. The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research would start functioning at Vithura near Thiruvananthapuram in August. He said in reply to a question that free software would be introduced in all Government institutions in phases. The NRI deposits in commercial banks in 2007 amounted to Rs 30,607 crore and it went up to Rs 33,304 crore in 2008. Milk pricesThe Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Mr C. Divakaran, said that the Government had asked Milma to fix milk prices according to quality. He said that the Government would carry out a feasibility study to open ‘people’s bazaars’ in seven districts in the State. Also, as many as 500 ration shops would be converted into ‘Sabari’ stores.
