Railways Rlys supplies passenger coaches to Tanzania Our Bureau Our Bureau Tiruchi, July 23 The Golden Rock Railway Workshop here won another feather in its cap when 23 refurbished MG passenger coaches were flagged-off to Tanzania on Wednesday. The coaches along with two refurbished metre gauge diesel locomotives were flagged off by Mr Raj Kamal Rao, Member (Mechanical), Railway Board, New Delhi at a function held at the workshop premises. Refurbished at a cost over Rs 5 crore, the coaches have been provided with air brake system for better braking power, fire retardant upholstery, enhanced buffer couplers, improved PVC flooring and UIC vestibules among other passenger friendly features. Mr Rao commended the workmanship of the technical personnel of the workshop and underscored the need to adopt new technologies in the backdrop of technological changes. He said substantial amount had been sanctioned to the workshop for its modernisation plan. The Chief Mechanical Engineer, Southern Railway, Mr V. Carmelus, who was present on the occasion said the coaches and locomotives would exemplify the quality of Indian Railways. The Chief Workshop Manager, Golden Rock Railway Workshop Mr S. Rangarajan, said the workshop had made a mark on the export front, adding that efforts were on to ramp up the capacity of the workshop to manufacture 1,000 wagons a year.
