Human Resources States - Andhra Pradesh Uncertainty over AP Group-I Main exams from Aug 7 According to the norms, the candidates are given a minimum period of 45 days to prepare for the mains. Going by this, the examinations cannot be conducted from August 7. Our Bureau Hyderabad, July 23 Uncertainty looms large over the Group – I Main examinations to be conducted by Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) from August 7. Acting on a petition by some candidates seeking implementation of reservations in the Group I screening test, the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday directed the commission to qualify the candidates from the reserved categories in 1:50 ratio in the preliminary examination, according to officials. New merit listThis would mean preparing a fresh merit list to announce the results afresh. According to the norms, the candidates are given a minimum period of 45 days to prepare for the mains. Going by this, the examinations cannot be conducted from August 7. However, according to Dr Y Venkatrami Reddy, Chairman, APPSC, there is also no certainty on the postponement of examinations yet. “The August 7-12, schedule for main examinations stands as it is today and we will appeal to the Supreme Court on the issue of reservations in the screening test,” he told Business Line here. HC judgmentThe Commission had followed a previous judgment of Andhra Pradesh High court on a similar issue in finalising the results of the screening test. “As there is a different judgment now, the matter will be decided in the Supreme Court,” Dr Reddy said. The results of the screening test were announced on May 26 and about 9,500 candidates were declared eligible to appear for the main examination for 195 posts. Subsequently, the non-implementation of reservations in the screening test results was challenged in the High Court which on Wednesday directed the commission to implement the principle of reservation in 1:50 ratio.
