WTO WTO talks: Chambers expect better access in services Our Bureau New Delhi, July 23 Industry Chambers are hoping for better access in services in the ongoing mini ministerial World Trade Organisation discussions, which would allow better mobility of Indian professionals overseas. FICCI said, “India’s strong competitive advantage in services is borne out by the fact that its exports of commercial services stood at $86 billion in 2007, accounting for 2.7 per cent share of the worldwide exports. While software services exports were over $40 billion in 2007-08, exports of other services such as financial, communications, business & management consultancy, architectural and engineering services reached nearly $25 billion.” “From this perspective, commitments from developed countries would be vital in dismantling the domestic regulation barriers which currently restrict supply of services by our professionals in those destinations,” said Dr Amit Mitra, Director-General, FICCI. Concerned over remanufactured goods clause, Mr Chandrajeet Banerjee, Director-General, CII, said that due to lack of consensus on definition of remanufactured goods, the issue should not figure at the multilateral level. CII along with members from Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), and Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) is in Geneva for the mini-Ministerial to discuss with respective industry associations from the European Union, the US, South Africa among others.
