CM to lay stone for new Markfed building

Hyderabad, July 24

The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, would lay the foundation stone for a Rs 12-crore building for Markfed at Jambagh to mark the valedictory of its Golden Jubilee celebrations.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr Ponnam Prabhakar, Chairman of Markfed, said the Chief Minister would also take part in the celebrations to be held at Ravindra Bharati on Sunday.

He said the federation had made good strides in distribution of seeds and fertilisers.

“From just four per cent (of total requirement of the farmers), the federation is able to supply 40 per cent,” he said.

Admitting to the fact that there were some problems in certain pockets, he said it was because of the farmers’ unfounded fears of shortage.

“It is also because more and more cooperative societies are selling the fertilisers. Of the 2,700 revamped primary agricultural credit societies, 1,700 are selling fertilisers. We will still increase it to 2,000 in the next few months,” he said.
