Power States - Kerala 25% cut in power supply to heavy users in Kerala Our Bureau Thiruvananthapuram, July 24 The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KSERC) has issued an interim order restricting power consumption by high tension (HT) and extra high tension (EHT) consumers in the State to 75 per cent on a monthly basis. The 75 per cent quota will be calculated on the basis of the average monthly consumption from April 1, 2007, to March 31, 2008. Any consumption over and above the quota fixed will be charged at the actual cost of additional purchase of power required and calculated on a monthly basis. The rate for additional consumption will be approved by the commission before the 5th of every month, says the order. The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) and all licensees should take necessary steps to restrict all kinds of luxury and non-essential consumption, including illuminations. Adequate publicity should be given through media on such measures. The commission will review the power position on September 1, or before it if needed, to decide whether to extend or relax the restrictions. The board should furnish all the necessary data for the review and if the situation demands, the restrictions will be extended to all categories of consumers, says the order. KSEB had filed a petition before the commission on July 17, asking for permission to restrict supply of power to HT and EHT consumers and licensees to 75 per cent. More Stories on : Power | Kerala
