Industry Associations States - Kerala Chamber protests move Our Bureau Kochi, July 24 The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has protested the move to impose 25 per cent power cut for industries in Kerala, saying that it would upset the working of industrial units in the State. While the industry catering to internal market will not be able to maintain supplies as per requirements, the manufacturer-exporters will find it difficult to fulfil their commitments to overseas buyers, the Chamber said in a statement. Certain types of industries need uninterrupted and adequate power supply to avoid quality deterioration. In order to ensure timely shipment of export cargo as well as clearance of import cargo, including industrial raw materials, smooth operation of cargo handling equipment is inevitable, for which the Kochi Port requires uninterrupted and adequate power supply. The unprecedented level of inflation has had its adverse impact on the industry. On top of this, if a 25 per cent power cut is imposed it will cripple this sector and its impact will be felt on the trade sector as well as the State’s economy. It will be desirable if the authorities think of alternative arrangements to avoid the proposed power cut, the Chamber said. More Stories on : Industry Associations | Kerala
