Energy-saving projects for Kerala PSUs

Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram, July 24

The Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) of the Kerala Government and the Energy Management Centre (EMC), the State-designated agency to enforce Energy Conservation Act 2001, have joined hands to implement energy efficiency improvement projects in the public sector industrial units in the State.

Accordingly, designated energy managers have been appointed in more than 30 PSUs to look after the in-house energy conservation activities after a training programme jointly organised by EMC and BPE in March this year, according to a statement from the Energy Management Centre.

EMC is imparting technical training to implement energy efficiency projects in these industrial units in order to cut energy consumption that leads to reduction in product cost.

Training scheme

A training programme now under way in Kochi is being attended by 60 officials from more than 25 industries, which include Malabar Cements, all the units of Kerala State Textiles Corporation and Travancore Cements.

The statement said that experts from the National Productivity Council and EMC would help the participants to formulate suitable industry-specific energy efficiency projects.

As a follow-up, these industrial units will prepare detailed proposals for implementation with the support of the Bureau of Public Enterprises and the Energy Management Centre.

It had also been suggested to set up ‘energy circles’ to look into energy conservation proposals in each of the units, the statement added.
