Infrastructure States - Other States HC issues notices to GIDC on SEZ Prakash Kamat Panaji, July 25 The Bombay High Court at Panaji on Thursday issued notices to the State-owned Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) in response to the petitions filed by the promoters of three non-notified special economic zones (SEZs) in the court. The petitions sought to stay the effect and the operation of the show-cause notices earlier issued by the GIDC as also restraining the respondent from taking action pursuant to the said notices. The GIDC notices sought to know why the lease granted in respect of land should not be revoked and the land reverted back. The court has fixed the next hearing on September 8. The land was allotted for setting up of SEZs. The notices further prohibited petitioners to carry on any work of whatsoever nature in the said land. The petitioners – Inox Mercantile Company Private Ltd, Mumbai; Peninsula Pharma Research Centre Private Ltd; and Planet View Mercantile Company Private Ltd – had stated that the show cause notices were illegal, without authority of law, without jurisdiction and manifestly unreasonable and arbitrary and, therefore, null and void. They have alleged that show-cause notices have been issued under the dictates of the State Government, which is impermissible and hence suffer from non-application of mind.
