Hyderabad, July 25 The growth of the manufacturing sector in an organised way is a necessary condition for balanced growth of economy, said Ms J. Geeta Reddy, Minister for Major Industries, Government of Andhra Pradesh.

“If this is done it would ensure creation of jobs for the large workforce joining the job market every year,” she said while addressing a seminar, ‘MAN’EXE 2008 - The Winning Edge through Innovation’ organised by CII (Confederation of Indian Industries) Andhra Pradesh here on Friday.

She stressed on the need for improvement in the quality of workforce, cost effectiveness and productivity for manufacturing excellence through better engagement at all levels.

“The ability to converge knowledge into wealth through the process of innovation determines the future.

“To build an economic growth trajectory based on innovation we must continually improve our ability to identify and commercialise new products, services and processes, together with improving manpower skills at different levels in the organisation,” Ms Reddy said.

Deeper knowledge

While delivering the keynote address, Mr B. Ramalinga Raju, Founder and Chairman, Satyam Computer Services Ltd, said that differences between the manufacturing and services sector are limited and the commonalities more pronounced.

“There is a lot we can do because we have taken a lead in the knowledge industry to influence even the manufacturing sector and in one sense leapfrog and be ahead of China,” he said.

Mr Raju explained that knowledge is not a strength that China has to the same degree as India.

“Therefore, we can build on our design capabilities and understand the element of knowledge behind any value creation, particularly in the manufacturing sector,” he added.

Mr Raju also said that one has to excel in the processes, technology and it would also do well to adopt the right type of business model.
