Events States - Karnataka NMPT holds trade meet in Hassan Our Bureau Mangalore, July 28 The New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT), in association with Hassan District Chamber of Commerce and Industries, conducted a trade meet at Hassan recently as part of its business promotion drive. A press release by NMPT said here on Friday that the meet apprised the members of the trade and industry about the latest developments and infrastructure additions at the port. Mr P. Tamilvanan, Chairman of NMPT, requested the trade and industry to make use the New Mangalore Port, which is just 165 km away from Hassan, for moving their cargo, and to avail of the advantageous position of the port. The exporters and importers of commodities such as coffee, textiles, garments and gherkins; senior officials from Railways; and mainline container operators attended the meet. Some members of the trade raised the issue of non-availability of an ICD (inland container depot) at Hassan. For this, Mr Tamilvanan assured that the matter would be taken up with the authorities concerned. He has also mentioned that some private parties are planning for an ICD at Hassan. Mr M.A. Bhaskarachar, Deputy Chairman, NMPT, welcomed the gathering. Mr B.R. Nagendra Gupta, President of Hassan District Chamber of Commerce and Industries, urged the importers and exporters to utilise the facilities available at NMPT, the release added.
