Infrastructure New system to let AAI regional offices clear constructions Manish Basu Kolkata, July 28 All regional offices of Airport Authority of India (AAI) will soon be delegated powers to give approvals for construction of buildings in the vicinity of airports. This will be possible with the installation of a new computer programme, called No Objection Certificate Application System (NOCAS), in the air traffic control in all airports. Existing arrangmentUnder the existing arrangement, the proposal for construction around any airport has to be approved by the appropriate authorities in Delhi. New systemThe new system, according to Mr P.K. Singhal, Regional Executive Director, AAI, will speed up the process of approval for new constructions around airports. “The new system will automatically intimate the air traffic control about the permissibility of a proposed construction after its location and height have been uploaded in the computer,” Mr Singhal said. The calculations for the permissible height of new buildings were earlier done manually. TrainingThe system would be operational in the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata from August, he said, pointing out that 40 AAI officers in the eastern zone were currently undergoing training on NOCAS. “We have also intimated all municipal authorities in our zone about the new approval mechanism,” he said. NOC neededConstruction of any building within a radius of 10 km from the airport needs no objection certificate from AAI and within 1.5 km from the runway, a special permission from Delhi is required. Height restrictionsCertain height restrictions depending on distance from the airport too are enforced. More Stories on : Infrastructure | Airlines
