SSI States - Andhra Pradesh CII-IQ plans quality certifications for 100 SME clusters Our Bureau Hyderabad, July 29 The Confederation of Indian Industry’s Institute of Quality (CII-IQ) is planning to examine 100 clusters of small and medium enterprises (SME) under its quality certification programme this year. The identification of clusters consisting 15-20 SMEs in all sectors except services is currently on, Mr K.N. Shenoy, Chairman, CII–IQ, told Business Line here. The institute would certify the products of SMEs under total quality management (TQM) certification. “The TQM certification is now widely accepted by the big industrial houses which source finished/semi-finished products/components from SMEs,” he said. Currently, the corporates are largely depending on their own quality inspections before planning orders. “As most of them are also CII members, they are now going by TQM certificate to evaluate the quality of SMEs. This will save lot of time and money for them,” Mr Shenoy said. The institute would also appoint regional quality counsellors in each State, he added.
