Other income pushes up Bosch Q2 net

Our Bureau

Bangalore, July 29 Helped by a significant contribution from other income, Bosch Ltd (formerly Motor Industries Co Ltd), the flagship of the Bosch Group in India, reported a net profit at Rs 219.7 crore for the second quarter of 2008, compared with Rs 164.2 crore in the same period last year. Describing the operating results far below expectations, Bosch said the increase in steel prices and other commodity prices affected input costs and operating profitability.

However, due to the increase in other income to Rs 114.5 crore during the second quarter this year (Rs 36.2 crore) — realised mainly from the profit on sale of financial investments — profit before tax of the company was up 20 per cent at Rs 280 crore (Rs 233.3 crore), a company release said.

The company generated net sales of Rs 1,221 crore during April-June 2008, registering a growth of 13 per cent over the same period last year. The increase in prices of steel and other commodities affected input costs and operating profitability.
