Manipal Hospital tightens security

Our Bureau

Bangalore, July 30

Manipal Hospital says it has put in additional and advanced security measures in its Bangalore facility after last week’s serial blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad. Two hospitals were targets in the Gujarat bomb blasts.

The hospital on the old airport road has put up a metal detector at the entrance to screen visitors and all baggage. All vehicles at the hospital on the old airport road are subjected to under-carriage mirror inspection trolleys. Visitors cannot carry food, fruit baskets, bouquets or gift articles to the hospital.

“Along with providing a personal touch, we also want to ensure the safety and security of our patients and their attendants. Due to the prevailing security threats we are forced to initiate additional safety checks and restrictions,” said Col B.N. Pundareek (Retd), Head of Security and Vigilance.

These are in addition to the routine procedures that allow authorised persons and visitor-pass holders into the premises, apart from a stringent set of checks in the materials section, a spokesperson said.

Each patient is now allowed only two visitors a day. Children under 12 years are being discouraged from visiting the hospital. The general visiting hours of 4-7 p.m. will be enforced strictly. Visitors to other specialised units have also been requested to adhere to the timings.
