Mergers & Acquisitions Lupin acquires Hormosan of Germany Our Bureau Mumbai, July 30 Lupin Ltd has acquired Germany’s Hormosan Pharma GmbH, a sales and marketing generics company that specialises in supplying Central Nervous System (CNS) medicines, at an undisclosed sum. German entryHormosan clocked sales of €6.8 million for the year ended December 2007 and its acquisition marks Lupin’s long awaited deal in Europe, besides an entry into Germany. The German company develops licenses and markets a range of generics in Germany, and has complementary products in the cardiovascular segment, as well, Lupin said. Germany’s pharmaceutical market is estimated to be about $45 billion, with $14 billion of this being the generic drugs market. Japan on radarDr Desh Bandhu Gupta, Chairman, said that the German acquisition was in line with its strategy to tap into the potential of other leading global pharma markets. The company still has an appetite for acquisitions, he said and added that Japan was now on its radar. Lupin shares were up over two per cent on the BSE, at Rs 734 on Wednesday.
