Good demand at Kochi tea sale

Good general demand propped up the price of dust and leaf teas at the Kochi tea auction. Exporters were active on fair and bolder CTC dust grades, while major blenders and interstate buyers also lent good support. In the leaf segment, good export demand was evident for both CTC and orthodox grades.

There was 9,15,000 kg of dust tea on offer where CTC finer grades opened firm to fully dearer by Rs 2-4 and even higher as the sale progressed. Orthodox high grown dust were dearer by Rs 2, while medium orthodox moved up by Rs 2-4. Best CTC varieties fetched Rs 78-85, medium CTC quoted Rs 70-76 and below medium ranged at Rs 66-70. High grown BOPD was at Rs 118, medium BOPD ranged at Rs 60-62 and secondaries quoted Rs 55-57.

Leaf Sale

There was 3.43 lakh kg of leaf tea on offer where high grown orthodox broken and fannings were fully firm to dearer. Whole leaf grades were steady to dearer. High priced CTC varieties were dearer by Rs 2-3. Best Nilgiri varieties fetched Rs 90-120, medium orthodox was at Rs 69-95 and plain orthodox quoted Rs 60-65. Best CTC leaf fetched Rs 66-75 and medium CTC ranged at Rs 60-68.

Top Prices

In the dust category, Kodanad BOPD fetched the top price at Rs 118, followed by Pasuparai FD at Rs 110, Pasuparai SFD at Rs 97 and Shanthi SFD at Rs 88. In the leaf segment Chamraj FOP quoted the top price at Rs 136, followed by Sutton OP at Rs 135, Parkside CLFP at Rs 130 and Parkside FOP at Rs 129.
