Tea exports decline

Kolkata, July 31

The Tea Board has released final figures pertaining to tea exports during fiscal 2007-08. Tea exports stood at 185.32 million kg valued at Rs 1,888.68 crore at a unit realisation of Rs 101.91 per kg. A communiqué from the Tea Board said that there was a decline of 32.83 million kg in exports during the year compared with the previous fiscal. This is attributed to a decline in exports to Iraq to the tune of 34.87 million kg over 2006-07. During 2007-08, there was an i ncrease in exports of tea to countries such as Russia, Egypt, Sri Lanka and Germany.
