Aquaculture States - Andhra Pradesh CMFRI gets new director Visakhapatnam, July 31 Dr G. Syda Rao, working here previously as the scientist-in-charge of the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), assumed charge as the Director of the institute at its headquarters recently in Kochi. According to a press release issued by CMFRI, he belongs to the 1976 batch of the agricultural research service and has over three decades of experience in different branches of fisheries. He introduced land-based pearl culture technology, which was provisionally patented in 2001. During his tenure as the scientist-incharge of the Vizag centre of CMFRI, he organised and successfully demonstrated the open sea floating cage culture. Dr Syda Rao is keen on promoting cage culture in the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh - with the assistance of the State Government - and in other states as well. - Our Bureau
