Second LAF on reporting Fridays

Mumbai, July 31

The Reserve Bank of India has decided to introduce a second LAF (SLAF) on reporting Fridays from August 1. These operations will be conducted between 4.00 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. The measure comes in response to suggestions from market participants for fine-tuning the management of bank reserves on the last day of the maintenance period. In case the reporting Friday is a bank holiday in Mumbai, then the SLAF would be conducted on the immediate preceding working day, says the RBI press release. Though the salient features of SLAF are same as those of LAF, the settlement for the LAF and SLAF will be conducted separately on a gross basis. The LAF operations are conducted between 9.30 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. - Our Bureau
