GMR Ind revenue dips; PBT up on high sugar prices

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, July 31 GMR Industries, the agri-business arm of the GMR Group, has registered a total revenue of Rs 25.83 crore in the quarter ended June 2008 against Rs 40.17 crore in the corresponding period last year.

The profit before tax was put at Rs 35.34 lakh against a loss of Rs 82.63 lakh.

“The drop in revenue is attributed to lower cane availability during the quarter and the consequential impact on the cogeneration and distillery operations,” said Mr R. Ramakrishnan, Managing Director.

Despite this, the company could report profits due to the increase in sugar and distillery prices during the quarter.

“We hope that this could partly offset the problem,” he told Business Line.

The company had begun trial runs at the 3,500-tcd (tonnes crushed a day) greenfield sugar complex in Haliyal.
