Our Bureau

Chennai, Aug. 1 The Pune-based Electromech Material Handling Systems (India) Pvt Ltd plans to set up its second facility in Sriperumbudur with an annual capacity of 200 cranes. The company manufactures discreet industrial cranes (2 tonnes to 150 tonnes capacity) at its Pune plant and caters to several industrial segments including heavy engineering, power plant manufacturing and auto components. The Managing Director of the company, Mr Tushar Mehendale, said the objective of setting up the Rs 10-crore Chennai plant was to bring down costs in the South.

The new facility would go on stream in February 2009. Subsequently, it would further invest Rs 8 crore to take the capacity to 500 cranes a year, he added.

During the first full year of operation (2009-10) the contribution from Chennai plant would be Rs 40 crore, he said.

Doubling annual capacity of Pune plant to 2,000 cranes, at an investment of Rs 30 crore, is underway and would be completed by December, he said.
