Assam CTC leaf, dust tea sell lower

Kolkata, Aug 3 Last week, Assam CTC leaf and dust teas were around last and irregularly lower while Dooars continued to sell well at firm to occasionally dearer rates, according J Thomas & Company Pvt Ltd, the tea auctioneers. Major blender and Tata Tea operated in strength while there was good enquiry from internal and local sections.

Darjeeling teas once again saw an easier trend following quality with only the liquoring fannings barely steady around last. There was good enquiry from major blender and traditional exporters while another packeteer operated on the cheaper whole leaf. UK, Continent and Japan buyers were selective while local dealers operated for the fannings.

Few best tippy and liquoring Orthodox lines were readily absorbed at last levels. Better whole leaf tended irregularly lower while remaining whole leaf maintained levels. Brokens were around last and at times easier following quality while fannings were barely steady. West Asia and CIS continued to operate actively while the Continent operated selectively on the tippy sorts. North India buyers were quiet while local buyers operated selectively on the fannings.

Normal leaf intake reported from most growing areas.

Global markets

The Mombasa market saw strong demand at generally dearer rates. Afghanistan, Pakistan and Egypt packers were active while Yemen and other West Asian countries showed more interest. There was maintained support from Sudan, Russia and Kazakhstan while the Bazaar showed some interest but the UK was less active. The Egyptian Government Sector was subdued. Somalia operated at the lower end of the market.

The Colombo auction saw leafy low growns meet with selective demand and decline in value while the remainder met with strong demand at firm to dearer rates. Traditional exporters operated as usual.
