Our Bureau Mumbai, Aug. 4 The ‘on-and-off’ rains in July failed to dent the demand for cement as production and dispatches of cement companies continued to remained robust. ACC has reported 6.13 per cent rise in July production at 1.73 million tonnes (mt) against 1.63 mt recorded in the same period last year. Dispatches were at 1.71 mt against 1.64 mt logged in the same period last year, up 4.27 per cent. On a cumulative basis, the company’s production was higher by 3.88 per cent at 12.30 mt (11.84 mt), while dispatches have risen 4.05 per ent at 12.32 mt (11.84 mt). The Aditya Birla Group’s cement output rose 7.38 per cent at 2.51 mt, while dispatches increased 4.40 per cent 2.45 mt in July. The group includes flagship Grasim Industries Ltd and UltraTech Cement, with a combined cement-making capacity of more than 31 mt. Between April and July, the production was up 3.40 per cent at 10.49 mt (10.15 mt) and dispatches grew 3.09 per cent at 10.40 mt (10.94 mt). “Though cement dispatches were up, company’s margins are under pressure due to increasing input cost,” said an analyst.
