Events States - Kerala Global meet on Semantic e-biz in Kochi next month Our Bureau Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 4 A three-day international conference on ‘Semantic E-business and Enterprise Computing: From Theory to Applications’ (SEEC 2008) will kick off in Kochi on September 17. The Semantic Web is an evolving extension of the World Wide Web in which the semantics of information and services on the Web are defined. This makes it possible for the Web to understand and satisfy the requests of people and machines to use the Web content. The Web is envisioned as a universal medium for data, information, and knowledge exchange. London-based Magnificata Productions and Technology, a media production specialising in technology design, the Semantic Web and multimedia and technological development, is the main organiser of the event. Kingston University and Middlesex University are co-organisers. The objective of SEEC 2008 is to bring together researchers, engineers and practitioners interested on information systems methods, applications in the technological advances and e-business applications of web-based information systems, according to Fr Biju John of Kingston University, who is the Conference Chair. One of the topics to be discussed at the event is ontology management. Ontology is a formal representation of a set of concepts within a domain and the relationships between those concepts. It is used to reason about the properties of that domain, and may be used to define the domain itself. Ontologies are used in artificial intelligence, the Semantic Web and software engineering, among others. The event will offer oral, tutorial and professional sessions in other areas of interest such as business-oriented aspects of ontology engineering; Semantic web-based multimedia, Web representation and query languages; Semantic Web applications for knowledge management, database technologies, interoperability, data integration and Web mining, ERP security, auditing issues and image processing. Papers being presented are expected to cover modern technologies, theoretical concepts, standards, products implementation, ongoing research projects and innovative applications of Semantic technologies. Ideas on how to solve business problems using Web-based information systems and technologies are expected to crystallise during the event. More Stories on : Events | E-Commerce & E-Business | Kerala
